True Worship Tuesday - Why are you singing?

This week I am introducing a beautiful song by my favorite female singer. Kari Jobe has been such an inspiration to me. I first learned of this talented singer when my sister introduced me to the cd titled, "Glorious" by the singers of the Christ For the Nations Institute (CFNI). The first song I ever heard was Revelation Song, which to this day is my absolute favorite praise and worship song. Sometimes I sit at the computer and listen and watch the video over, and over. I can feel the presence of God so strongly when I listen to Revelation Song.

The song I am introducing to you this week is called "I'm Singing". There was an awesome video made from many of Kari Jobe's fans telling why they are singing. The video is backed by her song, and it is very touching. While you are listening, think about why you sing? What has God done for you that no other could do?

I pray that you enjoy this song as much as I do!

True Worship Tuesday - An introduction

My sister and I started singing in church at a very young age. We always sang together, NEVER alone! I wandered from God in my teenage years and quit singing. After re-dedicating my life to God in 2006, I got that urge to sing again. I had the want to, but was scared to death to do it alone. I prayed for guidance and strength, and eventually got up and sang my very first song alone. It was a song by one of my very favorite christian singers, Chris Tomlin. I have since sang many of Chris' songs, as they depict what I think true worship to God really is. Many of his songs come straight from the bible, it's like singing scripture. I believe it was his music, and God's guidance that led me to my love for Praise and Worship.

Wanna know more about Chris Tomlin? Visit his website here, and his MySpace page here. I know that you will be blessed by his music!

And now I would like to share with you the very first song I ever sang by Chris Tomlin.
Chris Tomlin, "Indescribable"

True Worship Tuesday - Open the Eyes of My Heart

This week's post is another of my favorite praise and worship songs. This one has a special meaning as God has opened the eyes of my heart. This week I have seen and experienced God in ways I have never seen or experienced Him before. It has been an awesome week of learning new things about myself, God and the Bible. I suffered from an addiction to food, one that controlled my life and my health. God showed me that instead of filling myself with food to try get some sort of comfort or relief from the pain or stress I was feeling, that I should feast upon Him and His Word. Since then I have felt as free as a bird. (And the weight loss has been great as well!) Please enjoy this song today!

True Worship Tuesday - Garment of Praise

Isaiah 61:3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.

The garment of praise is meant to cover us so that when we have a bad day, and there are maybe some bitter feelings, or emotions looming, we can control them as we shift our focus back to God. Our praise keeps our spirits high, and helps us to remain strong. We are to put on our garment of praise even when we don't feel like it!  Remember week 1 of True Worship Tuesday? Paul and Silas put on their garments of praise in the middle of a jail cell! When we put on our garment of praise it helps us to remember that God is in control and helps us to regain control of the situation through our faith in Him.

I pray that we will take a moment this week to look at our
garments to see if they include the garment of praise!

True Worship Tuesday - Our God!

Today I thought I would share with you one of the most powerful songs I have heard this year! I know many of you have heard this song, but those that haven't make sure you are somewhere where you can make a little noise! This song always throws me right into God's presence, and I can barely contain the joy that I feel!

Isn't it awesome to know that our God is Greater, stronger, our Healer? There is none like Him! This is a great song to listen to when you feel like you are standing in the boxing ring by yourself, whenever you think you are in your corner alone. What a great reminder that God is always with us and "If our God is with us, then what could stand against?"

Thanks for reading (and listening) today!

True Worship Tuesday - What does it mean to glorify...

What does it mean to glorify God?
To glorify God simply means to give glory to God.  Glory is defined as "great honor, praise, or distinction accorded by common consent." Glorifying God means that we are acknowledging his power, and greatness and we are giving honor, praise and distinction to Him because He deserves it!
1 Chronicles 16:29 says that we are to "Give to the LORD the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him. Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness!"
What is this offering we are to bring to glorify God?
We are to bring ourselves to God fully committed, in obedience, and respect. When we step outside of our comfort zone to do something for Christ, then He is glorified! We also glorify God by sharing his story! What better story can you share with someone than of how God sent his son to die for us so that we might be free!
I challenge you to glorify God in a way this week that might be a little different for you! If you are normally shy and quiet, step out of that box for a minute and tell someone that Jesus died for them so that they could one day live with Him in paradise! Maybe your days are like mine; packed full of activities and there seems to be no time for any extras. Take (extra) time to sit, and talk with God or read His word.

Thanks so much for reading this week!

True Worship Tuesday - "Praise You in this Storm"

I would like to dedicate this weeks post to the residents of Western/Middle TN who were affected by the recent floods. I also dedicate this post to Lorraine Patterson. Lorraine is such an inspiration to me. Her daughter, Chrissie, recently had open heart surgery, and throughout the whole ordeal, Lorraine continues to have faith and praise God with every breath. I am always blessed and encouraged by her posts. You can read more about Lorraine and her precious daughter, Chrissie at her blog, All are Precious in His Sight.

If you listen to Contemporary Christian music I am sure you have heard the song, "Praise You in this Storm" by Casting Crowns. The chorus of this song says,
"I will praise You in this storm, And I will lift my hands, for You are who You are, no matter where I am, And every tear I've cried, You hold in Your hands, You've never left my side, and even though my heart is torn, I will praise You in this storm."
I have often wondered how my faith would stand if I were ever to find myself in a "storm". I hope and pray that my faith is strong enough to continue to praise God no matter the circumstances. It is hard when in a dire situation to remember that God is still in control.
"As the thunder rolls, I barely hear Your whisper through the rain, "I'm with you." And as Your mercy falls I raise my hands and praise the God who gives And takes away."
My prayer is that no matter the situation I am in, that my praise to God remains. Please take the time to watch and listen to the YouTube video below of the song I referred to in this post.

I know this weeks post was not a "lift you up, feely good" kind of post, but I feel like it is what God wanted to be posted.

Your sister in Christ,

True Worship Tuesday - How powerful is YOUR praise?

 How powerful is your praise?

Praise and Worship is something that should be a part of our every day lives. Not just during the song service at church, or after God has done something great for us. Praise is something that should be ever on our lips, and in our minds. Praise, in the name of Jesus, is powerful.

Ever heard of Paul and Silas? (Acts Ch. 16:16-35)

The Bible tells of these men in the city of Phillipi sharing the good news of Jesus when they came across a young girl who was a fortune-teller. Paul cast the evil spirit from this girl, and her masters, who were reaping the monetary benefit of her fortune telling, became very upset. They took Paul and Silas to the authorities of the city and claimed the two apostles were trouble-makers, teaching customs that were against the Roman's beliefs. So after being beat, Paul and Silas were thrown into jail, with their feet bound. (This is my favorite part...) At midnight Paul and Silas began to sing praises to God. At that moment, a mighty earthquake came about, causing the walls of the jail to crumble, and the prisoners were loosened. At that time, the jailer awoke, and upon seeing that the prisoners were gone, he drew his sword to kill himself. Paul called to the jailer telling him to do himself no harm, for all the prisoners were still there. The jailer fell down in front of Paul and Silas trembling, asking them what he must do to be saved. They told him to believe on Christ, and he and his household would be saved! Praise God!
Those were some potent praises, wouldn't you agree? In life, when we are surrounded by the invisible walls of discouragement or despair, we should lift our voices to heaven and praise God. Our praises to God are capable of bringing down walls and setting us free. And when those around us see that even in the midst of our despair we are still praising God, they will want to know how they too can be free!
