Practical Parenting: Refreshing Your Soul

Parenting can be tough!
I once read a tongue-in-cheek job “advertisement” of a parent that talked about the long hours and the money that you get to pay into it. Had the description been for any other type of job, no one in their right minds would apply for it! However, if I remember correctly, the end of it talked about the amazing rewards that you get from parenting.
Mommies do have a never-ending job. More often than not we’re the 24/7 boo-boo kissers, the monster exterminators, the teachers, the “therapists”, the chefs, the chauffeurs, the referees. And the noise! I know there are times where we’re only a few hours into our day and already my head is pounding.
I don’t know about you, but it always seems like BOTH kids need me at the exact moment that I’m trying to get something done (making lunch, cleaning up a mess, etc). It can be completely and totally overwhelming at times. Lately I’ve found myself asking God – am I really the right woman for this job? Am I strong enough? Am I doing right by my kids? More importantly, am I doing right by Him?
One of my favorite verses of the Bible is Matthew 11:28-30 where Jesus says:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
I feel this verse like a gentle whisper to my soul that brings me peace. Can you feel it? Can you hear Him calling to you? He’s asking you to bring all of your burdens, your worries, you fears and to lay them before His throne. Follow His example and learn from His ways. Know that God gave you the kids that He did for a reason, and yes, you ARE strong enough. You ARE the right person for this job.
Take some time to be with Him and find rest. When you do, you will find yourself refreshed and ready to take on the noise and the chaos and to treasure those precious gifts that our Father has bestowed upon us – our children.

Awww....such a great post. It brings me comfort to know I'm not the only mom out there who has moments like this. It's also reassuring to know that God put me here for a reason and He knows that I'm well capable of handling it.
Great post, Stephanie! You are going to be a great addition to the Seeds of Faith team!!!
WHat a great reminder. Spending time with God is the key. He is the one who gives grace for our parenting.
