Improved Drawings

My children LOVE to draw pictures for me; especially my 6 year old daughter. She always has from the time she could really hold a crayon well. She LOVES to draw pictures of our family or her friends, and now she can write their names on them as well.
I am CONSTANTLY picking up all over the house these "treasures"! I might need a tutorial on just how many of these I need to keep - but that is a post for a whole other day!
However, I have noticed something about her pictures over the past few years. One, they're getting better and better and two, they are getting more accurate in size proportions! When she first started drawing pictures of people's bodies, well, the face was very pronounced but the other parts were very small. I would love to share a cup of coffee with you and hear about the wonderful masterpieces that your 2 or 3 year-old created as well. I'm sure it would make us smile with a great big heart as we remember those younger years.
In scripture this morning I saw an example of how we too can have a wrong estimation of what God looks like - how we draw Him wrong in our mind.
In this passage the children of Israel are crying out for meat (while on their journey to the Promised Land). So the Lord hears their cry and tells Moses that He will provide them with their request. Moses then proceeds to ask how in the world God could do that! He reminds God just how many people are there (600,000 on foot) as if God didn't know!
Then we see God say, "Is the Lord's hand shortened?" This immediately reminded me of Jordan's early drawings of people. I think sometimes we draw God with shorter arms, shorter hands in our minds and in our hearts. We get His proportions all mixed up! We think He must be limited like we are - but He's not! God is so much bigger than we could ever imagine!
Jordan brought me one of her most recent creations the other day. I had happened to be out for the day when she drew it and it really touched my heart to come home to this precious treasure. Not only did she get our hair right, she added skirts, and I think I even saw a purse on the arm that was supposed to be me. But my favorite part was how she drew us holding hands! Where the hands were, she drew a heart. She explained this meant that we were holding hands. I love it! What a visual!
Today, after your prayer time, see how great our God is and don't shorten His hands. Get out a fresh piece of paper & crayon and create an improved drawing of our God. One with really long hands that not only extends to you but one that can provide the impossible as well!

Numbers 11:23 (ESV)
And the Lord said to Moses, "Is the Lord's hand shortened?
Now you shall see whether my word will come true for you or not."

Let me know if any of your kid's drawings
have touched your heart as well!
have touched your heart as well!
It could be that God used them as little agents to show His love!

Please pop in and say HI:)
Beautiful post! How many times have I exposed my negative thinking and linked it to a short-hand image of God?!
I love how you connected such a difficult concept with the precious image of your daughter drawing!
