How did you get to be so strong?

Yesterday during iFellowship, I gave a preview to this post....
The other day I got some good ole fashioned time playing with my little boy. He would try to knock me over and I would fall and then he would want to help me up, and then we would do it all over again.
Each time I would tell him, "You're so very strong!"
I wonder how differently we might act if we treated every situation with this knowledge? Knowing that we are strong & courageous and that the Maker of the Universe is right there with us - everywhere we went! I wonder if we would be like my son and just laugh when faced with big obstacles - knowing that our God told us to be strong courageous and if He said it... it CAN be so.
I bet that bills, jobs, relationships, parenting would be MUCH more manageable if we did.
Today take these 2 lessons with you and see how your day differs from days past.

On the last time I asked him,
"How did you get to be so strong?"

He just laughed and said,
"Because my Daddy told me I was strong!"
"Because my Daddy told me I was strong!"
I learned two important lessons here - almost as soon as he said these very precious, but insightful words. Moms... the words that we say to our kids do far more than just make them feel good or encourage them... they actually bring about ACTION!
My son knew and acted strong because he remembered that his Daddy had told him he was strong. JP had no doubt in his sweet little mind that he was strong enough to help me off the floor. He didn't look at what he saw (a person much bigger than him on the floor) and act accordingly - he looked inside himself and acted upon what he had been told instead!!
So lesson #1 - Do we tell our kids that they are smart, strong, beautiful, handsome, brave, courageous? Our words give them power. Our words determine their steps. It's our job as parents to truly fill their minds with who they are, who they can be and not let culture or what they see in their world do our job!!
This is easy to do when they've done well - but how about when they mess up? How do you still build up your children when they've brought home less than acceptable grades? How do you let them know they ARE capable of cleaning their room? Perhaps if we let them know they are good Room-Cleaners - they would actually take on the task better.

Now on to Lesson #2 - Go back to how JP answered my question..."Because my Daddy told me I was strong!" My dear sisters... our Heavenly Daddy tells us we are strong too! You are strong enough to move & affect change with the things that are much bigger than you... simple because your Daddy, your Abba, says that you are strong!!!

Encourage your children - tell them they are strong, brave, smart, beautiful. Let your words be louder than the ones they hear outside your home.
Lesson #2:
Listen to the words your Heaven Father is telling you! Believe them! And let them be louder than the words you hear outside of your prayer time!

I hear ya sista! I've had to do the same this week. I'm having conversations with my daughter that I was sure would come for another year or two. I'm learning how to be a better encourager!

Reminds me of an old hymn...."There is POWER in the blood, POWER in the blood"..... Thank you for the reminder of how important our words are and for reminding me that it's NOT my strength that gets me through!

I just had to post this to my Facebook page as encouragement for others. (Your son is adorable, by the way.) Feeling strong is something that I thought I'd lost after my stroke. But you have reminded me that strength does not depend on my physical health - it comes from above. It is up to me to trust in Him for that strength. Awesome post. Thank you for seeing and sharing what I have missed.

Wow! What a wake up call. We all sometimes forget that our kids listen to what we say. Just like we forget what our Father tells us. Thanks for this reminder.
