Vote the Bible!

Wow! What an extreme honor! I find myself writing my contribution to Seeds of Faith Women on TUESDAY, November 2nd, 2010! One of the most important days in our nation's history!!!
I hope you're not thinking,
"What? Is there something important going on today?"
Because I would answer with a resounding, "YES!!!"
Do you know the many women who sacrificed everything to be able to participate in today's activities?
Today, my husband & I will join hands and walk down to our local polling place and vote - unified!
Today I want to talk to you about what scripture says about the government - and then how we should respond.
I would love to get to know you better! You can find me almost every day sharing what God is teaching me personally over at my blog, Living Above Ministries. I also am totally addicted to Facebook & Twitter! So grab a cup of coffee and let's chat!!
I hope you're not thinking,
"What? Is there something important going on today?"
Because I would answer with a resounding, "YES!!!"
Do you know the many women who sacrificed everything to be able to participate in today's activities?
I'm talking about VOTING!!!
Today, my husband & I will join hands and walk down to our local polling place and vote - unified!
Don't worry... this post is not going to be about voting for or against a particular party. So please... keep reading!
Today I want to talk to you about what scripture says about the government - and then how we should respond.
Pray for your government!
1 Timothy 2:1-2 (ESV)
First of all, then I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
Notice, this verse doesn't say "if you agree with them", or "if they are of your same party" - but it says to pray for all who are in high positions!!!! I don't know about you, but I certainly want to live a quiet & peaceful life, godly and dignified in every way. I hope your prayer list just got a bit longer!!!
At the end of the day today, no matter who wins - we are required to pray for them!
So, as we come to this important mid-term election day...
What is a Christian to do?
How then should we vote?
I recently heard of a billboard that read in part,
"VOTE YOUR VALUES"
I liked this, initially... but then I thought, "What if someone has the wrong values?"
So I encourage you to do a couple of things today...
1 - VOTE! You have been given an amazing privilege! Don't lose it over apathy, busyness, or even uncertainty.
2 - Vote... not your values (because honestly, not everyone's values are rooted in truth!) Vote the Bible!
Check your values against scripture! Don't vote your heart, because the heart is deceitful above all else. (Jeremiah 17:9)
Let me keep it simple. Here are 2 which are beyond deniability for anyone legitimately reading and allowing scripture to say plainly what it says.
Vote for people who celebrate life!
Psalm 139:13 (ESV)
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
Mark 9:42 (ESV)
"Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea."
Vote for people who honor the sanctity of marriage!
Mark 10:6 (ESV)
But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.' "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife. And the two shall become one flesh."
From here, the decision is simple. These principles go far beyond party affiliations, but rather go directly to the heartbeat of following Jesus Christ and His Word.
Today, as you go to the booth, as your sister in the faith, I'm asking you to stand up for the Bible!
To not vote your agendas, to not vote for your favorite guy or gal, to not vote against your enemy, but rather to stand true - to stand aligned with the One who gave you life - all the while standing behind the veil of the booth!
Today...
exercise your right to be a Christian,
and vote accordingly!
I would love to get to know you better! You can find me almost every day sharing what God is teaching me personally over at my blog, Living Above Ministries. I also am totally addicted to Facebook & Twitter! So grab a cup of coffee and let's chat!!

Well said!! My hubby and I will be going to vote together tomorrow as well. Thank you for pointing out we need to vote the Bible way!
Sooooo true!!! My husband and I are voting today and the Bible is the guide we are using to determine who to vote for too. Thank you for advising ladies in the way you have. We need to get back to basics of truth!
Blessings!
Mary Joy
Thanks Mary Joy! I wanted to truly honor the Lord with this great responsibility of writing today! Thank you so much for your comments!
I'm just going to follow you around and say "Couldn't agree more" (on everything!) :) Another wonderful post, my friend.
Meghan
LOL! You are too sweet! Thanks so much Meghan!
Excellent post...again! :o) You are spot-on with everything. I can't imagine just 'going with my gut' and not praying before I vote. I'm still undecided on a couple of candidates this year. I'm praying that God will send the Holy Spirit to help me discern while I'm in the voting booth today. Thanks for backing your words with Scripture. That certainly makes it easier for me. :o) Happy Tuesday, my dear bloggy friend!
Hi! I'm visiting from Homeschool Hop. We've already voted. Yes it is a great privilege to live in a country where we can vote {and pray} for our leaders. Thank you for the Scripture.
I voted already! I think it is fun and interesting. Penny, good job!
Great post, Pen!!! I can't wait to go vote with you today!
