What are you serving for Thanksgiving?

Of course I will gladly share our family's recipes for Cranberry Jalapeno Salsa, Texas Cornbread Dressing, and Spiced Pecans. But the question of what I will serve really has me thinking this year.
In most families emotions peak this time of year and we cannot assume to know the condition of the hearts that gather 'round our tables. Perhaps someone at your table will deeply long for a loved one serving overseas unable to come home. Maybe someone’s heart is heavy with fear that illness or old age will make this a last celebration. At the other end of the spectrum, yet still at the same table, may sit a newly wed couple celebrating the joy and gift of life a baby brings. Whatever the circumstances, chances are there will be a buffet of emotion at your table.
God has created us with a full range of emotions, and he wants those emotions to be employed to serve him! If you are celebrating Thanksgiving this year you will either be a guest or a host. In either capacity, you can serve.
I am encouraged by the verses in 1 Peter 4: 8-11, especially in the context of Thanksgiving Day.
- Love each other deeply
- Offer hospitality to one another (without grumbling!)
- Serve others using your God given gifts and grace

Wow! Kristin this is AMAZING!!! I love how you write and I can see your heart and your love for the Lord in every word!
I will be a guest this year, at my Mom & Dad's house - and yes, as I think about the people that will surround her dining room table there is much emotion. I am thankful that we will all be together and will miss the ones that are already living in Heaven.
I will certainly focus on serving up grace, hospitality, love... along with my token dessert! LOL!
Thanks for such an encouraging word this morning!!!
This is FANTASTIC, Kristin!
Thank you so much for these words. I will be a guest this year, too, and we seem to have a habit of focusing on the potential drama that tends to surround the holidays. Thanks for helping me to put the focus back on Him.
Oh, and if you do plan to share these other recipes that you mentioned, I'd love to know. =)
Welcome to the team, Kristin!
Thank you Kristin. Your words are centering. I love the way you describe the Thanksgiving table and the Scripture you chose to share.
Love this post! What a buffet of emotions a holiday gathering brings. I like how you remind us that it doesn't matter how our gifts are received, I needed to hear that.
What am I serving - brisket, yep, totally going untraditional. My husband doesn't like turkey and we're all sick of ham. I will have corn souffle, hash brown casserole, rolls, cranberry sauce, baked beans, rolls, salad, and pumpkin pie with misc desserts and appetizers - we will be fat and happy!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Thank y'all for the warm welcome to Seeds of Faith! I'm grateful for this amazing community.
