The Composite vs. The Specific

I just want to take a brief moment to say thank you to everyone who have been praying for me over the past month and a half. Your prayers have been as precious gems to me!
Prior to December 30th, I wrote every Tuesday under the title of "Daily Life." I love finding God in my every day regular life stuff... and learning how to walk with Him better through the normal situations we all face.
Obviously I've been having to walk a very rough - not normal - not every day- road lately. But today, I wanted to go back to my normal Seeds of Faith category!
Very soon I will be taking a test to enter into an Alternate Certification program for teaching school. I have a BS in Chemistry and have decided that the best thing for me and my children at this point in time is to teach High School.
I would love to teach Chemistry! However, I am keenly aware that there may not be a Chemistry class (very specific) available; and I want to make myself as marketable as possible.
Therefore instead of taking a Chemistry specific content exam, I'm taking a Science Composite Exam. This test includes all the sciences - chemistry, physics, biology, geology, etc.
Oh my! It's overwhelming at first to think that I will need to study all of these different areas and remember formulas from all of these specific disciplines. But just think.... once I pass it, I will be able to teach a variety of different subjects and be much more valuable as a teacher.
I thought about how our time with the Lord is very similar. I think too often we only want to read parts of the Bible that are familiar to us. I've heard people say, "I only enjoy reading the New Testament", or they only read devotionals written by other people - because it's easier to read and understand.
Notice words like "all" - we are to declare, know, study "all the rules" of the Lord.
Whether we prepare for something specific or easy or familiar we will all experience a composite exam at some point in our lives. I want to be ready when the hard part of the test comes. I want to have at least looked over the material once or twice!
I certainly want to be a much more valuable servant of the Lord because I have studied His word with my whole heart!
My study guide for the Science composite is really thick compared to the specific areas of study. But I can't let the size of the book intimidate me - I must just dive right in and begin reviewing and learning.
Do the same with God's word! Don't be intimidated by the size of the book! Be prepared for the composite test of life by jumping right into His whole word!

Psalm 119: 9-13 (ESV)
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to Your word.
With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from Your commandments!
I have stored up Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
Blessed are you O Lord; teach me Your statutes!
With my lips I declare all the rules of Your mouth.

I would love to get to know you better! You can find me almost every day sharing what God is teaching me personally over at my blog, Living Above Ministries. I also am totally addicted to Facebook & Twitter! So grab a cup of coffee and let's chat!
