Time is Ticking Away
Do you ever feel like your life is a game show and your game is Beat The Clock? You run from task to task, just trying to complete it, let alone do it well? The moment you get up in the morning until your head hits the pillow again in the evening is a sprint through the day. It is exhausting!
There is a lot of pressure in our society today, whether from ourselves or from others, that our families need to be involved. But I believe there is a line of going overboard and many Christian families find themselves in that place. The activities may all be good things, but your family is running ragged.
Can I respectfully challenge you to take a look at your family schedule and activities and decide together to slow down?
Family time spent together at home is one of the most beneficial activities to both children and adults, yet we have overlooked it for sporting events, music recitals, dance lessons, and gymnastics. Unless you are planning to raise an Olympic gymnast, your children don't need to start classes at the age of four. Instead of enrolling them in every activity under the sun, think of how much money you could be putting into their college savings accounts instead.
I am not suggesting that you pull your children from every activity they are involved in, but I do think we should carefully consider if there is something they can give up. That is not to say that they couldn't try it again at another time, but not all at the SAME time. Talk to your children about their activities. Perhaps they are feeling overwhelmed and would gladly give something up.
Consider the end result. If our schedule does not allow for quality family time spent at home, there will be no room for discipleship, devotions, or family bible time. We have such limited time with our children to teach the ways of God. Let's be careful not to let that time slip away!
This post may have been a challenging for some, and if it was, I hope that you will prayerfully consider changing your family schedule to allow for family fun and downtime!
