Thankful Thursday: Clean Water

"But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” -John 4:14

CLEAN WATER.

It's something I am thankful for but something I don't really think that much about. I turn on the faucet and clean water comes out. I go to the refrigerator door, insert my cup and with a slight push clean water is flowing into my glass. Liters of clean water line the shelves at my local grocery store, easily accessible to me.

I TAKE IT FOR GRANTED.

I don't have to wonder if my water is safe to drink but...

ALMOST A BILLION PEOPLE DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO CLEAN, SAFE DRINKING WATER.

I wanted to share about a Charity called charity: water. They are a non-profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. 100% of public donations are used to directly fund sustainable water solutions in areas of greatest need.

JUST $20 CAN GIVE ONE PERSON CLEAN WATER FOR 20 YEARS.

If you are thankful for the clean water that you have would you please consider donating to charity: water?

Thankful Thursday: Shelter

As I prepare to move I realize how thankful I am for shelter. It's something that many (myself included) take for granted but a basic need which some do not have.

Have you taken time today to praise God for the shelter He has provided you?

Thankful Thursday: Uplifting Music

Today I am thankful for uplifting music. The other day I was having a rough day... probably the worst day I've had since my mom passed away. Every hour it seemed something else went wrong and by the end of the day I was in tears. After spending time in prayer I turned to YouTube and Casting Crowns. There is one song whose words touch me even in the hardest of times and that song is "Praise You In This Storm". I listened to the song repeatedly, crying and quietly singing the words out loud. Over and over again I sang the words until my soft whimpers turned into strong convicting words.

I'll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No Matter where I am
Every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm
(Full lyrics are here. YouTube video is here.)

I am so thankful for the words of this song. What song impacts you the most?

Thankful Thursday: Patience

"Mommy?" "Yes?" "Mommy?" "Yes?" "Mommy?" "Yes, Jacob?" "Mommy...."

This is an hourly conversation that happens at my house between myself and my 2 year old. I find myself often getting frustrated with the repetitiveness of it all.

It's said that "patience is a virtue" and I often pray for more patience. I am thankful for those times when I can demonstrate patience towards others. I find it especially important to demonstrate patience to my children and am thankful for the days when I can answer question after question while maintaining a calm tone.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." (Galatians 5:22-23)

Where can you demonstrate patience in your daily life?

Thankful Thursday: Reunited in Heaven

Today is the one year anniversary of the passing of my mom. A year later I still cry when I think of her, I still wish she would have had the chance to meet her grandchild (my second son who was born a week after her passing), and I still wish she was here to talk to.

While I mourn her death and the fact that she is not here with me anymore, I rejoice in the fact that I will see her again one day. I am thankful for that comforting thought.

The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (NIV translation):

"Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words."

What wonderful words to hear for those of us who have lost a loved one. We will see them again in Heaven and will spend eternity with them.

Thankful Thursday: Christian Friends

Today I am thankful for friends. More specifically, I am thankful for friendships that lift me up and encourage me in my walk with God. I am thankful for friends who are there for me when times are good but also when I am struggling and hurting. I am thankful for friendships that I can count on.

Hebrews 10:24-25 says- And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another- and all the more as you see the day approaching.

My prayer this week is for God to show me how I can be a better friend to each and every one of the important women in my life. They each need something different from me and only God can show me what that is... One friend may need a listening ear, one may need my time, and one may just need to know that they are loved by God.

Thankful Thursday: Prayer

I am so thankful that you and I can talk directly to God every day through prayer. We don't have to make an appointment, we don't have to be kneeling, and we don't have to be all dressed up in our "Sunday best" to meet Him.

All we have to do is have a conversation with God. Jesus demonstrates how we should pray in Matthew 6:9-13.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, which art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy Name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen

Have you ever thought how lucky we are that we can run to our Father in Heaven every time that we want to talk to Him and He is there to listen to us? I am so thankful for that!

Thankful Thursday: Quiet Time

Yesterday was a rare day of peace and quiet for this mom of two boys under two. My children were at my mother-in-law's house and I had the day to myself to do what I wanted. I am thankful for days like that when I can tackle my to-do list and spend some quiet time in prayer. The Bible verse- "Be still, and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10) and the song by Steven Curtis Chapman came to mind when I thought of being still and quiet with God.

I hope that you can find time today to enjoy the quiet, whether it's an hour before your children wake, a moment of your day, or just before bed. God longs for you to come to Him.

Thankful Thursday: New Beginnings

Today I am thankful for new beginnings.

I am thankful that tomorrow I can start all over again because I really messed today up (I feel like I do that a lot, what about you?)

I didn't rise early to spend time with God like I had planned.

I was late to Bible Study.

I raised my voice at my toddler when he was being too rough with his baby brother.

I served yet another sandwich for lunch instead of something healthier.

I have too much left on my to-do list at the end of the day.

I'm sure I could go on and on listing my failures as I had a lot. The great part though? That tomorrow is a new day for me to try again. No matter what happened today, God's mercy and grace is new tomorrow when I wake up.

Lamentations 3:22-24 says: "The unfailing love of the Lord never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, "The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!"

Thankful Thursday: Mothers

Hi. My name is Alicia and I am so happy to have a chance to share with you all on "Thankful Thursday". Each week we will be focusing on something to be thankful for and everyone will have a chance to add their thoughts in the comments below.

This week, since Sunday is Mother's Day, I would like for us to share with each other why we are thankful for our Mothers. Some may have a mom who is their best friend. Some may have a mom in Heaven. Some of us may have never had the chance to meet our moms or haven't seen our moms since we were young. Some of us have more than one mom due to divorce. And some of us may be blessed with women who raised us that were not our biological mothers but "moms" nonetheless.

Personally, I am thankful for my biological mom who has taught me how to be a loving person and my step-mom who, during her short time here in our earthly home, taught me to trust in God even in the hard times.

What about you?
